Genesis Chapter 1: 9-13

9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.
11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.
12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
13 And the evening and the morning were the third day.

3rd day...

9. God starts the day by saying and providing another command to the cosmos, earth, and heavens. He tells the waters under heaven (the firmament) to gather together, to allow the dry land to appear. Let's review what has happened. The earth, to begin with, was a huge mass which was full of darkness and water. The Lord created light, which displayed the earth as it was originally made, formless and full of water. The Lord gathered the waters together to allow land to show up. Day by day the Lord picks away at the Earth in order to form it into such a creation as He sees fit. The dry land was placed on earth.. and it was so, or to further tranlsate it...The Lord said it, and the Lord made it. It's a process of creation we have seen with God lately. He says he will do something, and then He focuses all His energy into doing it.

10. Once the land was created, God called it "Earth". So now we have the official name for this creation, Earth. This is where we live, this is our home that God has made for us. He also made note to call the waters gathered together as "Seas." We wonder sometimes, and try to use science to explain everything. Big bang theory, millions and millions of years passes until the Earth was made into this perfect place to inhabit. These examples are exactly what they are referred to as, "theories." Some would say, but isn't the Bible a theory as well? No. To the fellow believer we believe in the Truth of the bible. We believe in God's creation of the world. It is a matter of "faith," it is to see without believing, and that is what this belief comes down to. It's not just a "fairy tale" some people would claim, it is something more. It is years and years of prophesy and miracles that were proclaimed and made that when we slow down and take a look at the details of the Bible and Old Testament prophecies, we start to understand and see that every single prophesy was affirmed and came to be established. Every single prophesy. It is not just believing without seeing, it is more than that. It's believing and then seeing, and continually seeing through experiences, communication, and studying the Bible.
To end the verse, the Lord mentioned that His creations were good. So now we have the Light, Earth, and Seas which the Lord has proclaimed as "good."

11. God is now saying to produce vegetation on the Earth. Vegetation such as grass; herbs; and trees all contribute to a general theme we can view as "fertlity," "growth," and "reproduction."
The Earth was made with views of growth and harvesting, making sure every single vegetation and seed will eventually grow into a fruit or a vegetable or will eventually "grow" into something. God made the Earth and made it in such a way that all vegetation will grow and expand. If you look at a seed, God did not design it to stop from growing nor did he decide that it should be burnt or thrown away. A seed is made to create, and the Earth and its vegetation were made to do the same.

12. And Of course, God said it, made it, and then evaluated His work. He made sure to take a look at what he has done and labled it "good."

13. So ends the 3rd day.

We have been given Light, as hope in darkness. The Heavens in order to seperate space and sky, and allow for organization to reign. Seas and Earth collaborating together to ensure there is not only growth, but fertility, expansion, adventure, and abundance inhabiting the Earth He has created. And by the way, all these things are "good."

Genesis Chapter 1: 6-8

6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.

Let's try and understand what is going on here. In the beginning God started by creating heaven and earth, then he created Light, all in one day. The Lord takes the second day to seperate the waters from below from the waters up above. As we continue to study we will understand what He is explaining.

As God creates, he always leaves His signature. For instance, he created Light, and as any creator we always leave a signature that lets other know who created it. The Bible is the Truth to everything that was created. I often times wonder if when we wake and the sun rises do we acknowledge God's work? The Light.

6. So starts the second day. God on the second day starts off by speaking. He says, let there be a firmament. Now we may ask ourselves, "What is a firmament?" This is where the beauties of Bible study comes in; researching, digging, and searching. Firmament comes from the latin word firmamentum which means "make firm." It's used to translate the original Hebrew word of the Holy Scriptures, pronounced raw-kee-ah, which meant a "great expanse." So now we have both roots of translation. It is now safe to say that firmament means "a great expanse," "make firm," or if you'd like to put both meanings together, "a great expanse which is made firm." Now we can move on the next portion of the verse. The verse describes dividing the waters from the waters. This verse in particuar seems to draw a lot of different interpretations, and let us remember that there is only one single Truth. May God provide it through me in this study. The significance of the waters is not really "making an expanse" between what we think are oceans and other oceans, which is what anyone would think at first reading this. It actually touches a greater purpose. A purpose and creative feature that we at the time the Chapter of Genesis was written would not have been able to comprehend unless the Lord told us, which He did. The Lord was speaking about dividing the "Heavens" described as "waters" in this verse. The Heavens are both the sky, and outer space. So the Lord was saying let the firmament divide the waters from waters (heavens from heavens), as you can see the sky with outer space.

7. After God spoke, he acted. It has seem that is the routine he takes. He speaks and then he acts. Why not be commited that way in our lives? Say "I'm going to take out the trash," and I do it. No ifs ands or buts. Just do it. "I'm going to see my family today," "I'm going to work hard," "I'm going to commit myself to this marriage," "I'm going to love my kids." And then do it. It is never a matter of feeling, it is a matter of commiting and acting. This line actually makes the division of the Heavens a little more clear. God divided the "waters" which were above the firmament and the "waters" which were below. What is also beautiful about this verse is that it ends, "and so it was so." So God speaks, he acts, and then as a form of evaluation it reaffirms what he did.

8. This is were the last two lines mix in and you can really understand what God's goal is in this creation. He calls the "firmament" Heaven. Heaven seperates the "Heavens." Bear with me, it might be a little difficult to understand. We see things in a human aspect, the only way we can see, but let's close our eys and see through our heart, soul, and mind, instead of our eyes. Picture the sky we have here on earth, and then picture outer space. Now, the "firmament" the divider of both is called Heaven. In between the sky and space is Heaven. This passage has a lot of substance we can all study. But nontheless, Heaven was created and just picture we will one day be there, if we accept Christ in our hearts, and picture that it is somewhere between space and the sky. It is there, let us not rely on our eyes, but our faith, mind, soul, and heart. And so ends the second day,

So these are the two days. The first day God created Light, an incomplete earth and heaven. The second day he formed and completed the heavens. As we can see, God takes his time, and we can also see his work is patient and very focused. Maybe we should all be dedicated, focused, patient, and hard working as He is? Determined and consistent. May God bless you all.

Genesis Chapter 1: 1-5

1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

1 In principio creavit Deus cælum et terram.
2 Terra autem erat inanis et vacua, et tenebræ erant super faciem abyssi: et spiritus Dei ferebatur super aquas.
3 Dixitque Deus: Fiat lux. Et facta est lux.
4 Et vidit Deus lucem quod esset bona: et divisit lucem a tenebris.
5 Appellavitque lucem Diem, et tenebras Noctem: factumque est vespere et mane, dies unus.

We begin here. We will dissect the verses so that we may enhance our knowledge. Bible passages will be supplied in English (Douay-Rheims) and Latin (Clementine Vulgate Project).

1. Before we were all created, before you and I or anyone or anything was even allowed to breathe, roam, or exist as a being, a unit of matter, or even an atom such as H (Hydrogen), God existed. He was all there is. Hard to imagine? Very much, but lets not loose faith. If he is the almighty and the all powerful, it is not hard to fathom. In latin the words caelam and terram both mean "sky; heaven" and "earth; ground; land; country" respectively. So just imagine, the Presence of God and nothing else. Emptiness (if that even existed) and the Lord Almighty...and one day, just like that, BAM! heaven and earth are created.

2. The earth did not have a form. It was just some mass. Until God decided to shape it. It was also empty and useless hence the word void. Darkness existed over the earth as well. The earth was shapeless, useless, lacking purpose, and dark. God (which is the trinity : Father, Son, Holy Spirit) moved over the surface of the sea. As it is written "darkness was upon the face of the deep," that signifies the complete lack of light, purpose, and meaning the world had. The deepness of darkness is a strong description. Imagine the darkest room or place you can find, then just imagine that room or place growing until it is the size of your house, then the size of your neighborhood, then the size of your town until you envision it the size of the entire world. That is how dark and lonely the world was.

3. God's power was displayed step through step in a very prganized and unique order. He made heaven and earth and then decided to make light. All it took from him was to say the word and there it was. This is the first sentence God has spoken. None of us were alive to hear it, but through the spirit that educates us and gives us wisdom, aside from our brain, this story was handed down to His believers and jotted down. "Let there be light!" is very literal in the sense God created the Sun, or digging deeper into the word we can see and thus say that God created hope. In all that darkness he had already existed as the Hope for us, but by making light we can have another view of it as well. Light in the face of darkness, if we think about it metaphorically we can see that our light, our inner strength which is given to us through God, can overcome any darkness the world throws at us. Any darkness that tries to capture us. Let us not forget that a single ray or presence of light can shine an entire room of darkness.

4. Now, this line which is extremely important to us all. God mentioned that Light was good. He actually took a glance at it before he could actually say it was good. Do you remember Him saying the earth was good? No. We must always remember that. The only good thing the Lord has mentioned so far is the creation of Light. Afterwards he divided the Light from Darkness. It is safe to say here that Light is good, and Darkness is bad, very bad indeed (spiritually). When we think about the physical world we do acknowledge that there will be some darkness that helps, for instance, we rest in the dark, our body recuperates and re-energizes. But what happens when we have too much of it. If we never see light, our body will not function the way it should. Our body will become lazy, will loose motivation, etc. It is tested scientifically, seen both physically and spiritually. We produce a hormone known as melatonin which is excreted in larger amounts as long as there is the presence of darkness or "night." During the day we do not excrete as much. Do you ever wonder why at night we become sleepy? Melatonin in our body.

5. Very simple. God called the light Day, and the dark Night. Just like any story in the world, even our own peronal life. We will encounter a day and night. A life and darkness. How we handle it is a different story.
